Hapticity
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005099
A count of the adjacent donor atoms of one ligand that attach to the same metal center, written with the Greek letter eta and a superscript, as in eta-5-cyclopentadienyl, where all five ring carbons bind the metal. It differs from denticity, which counts the donor atoms a ligand binds through, adjacent or not, and is written with kappa. An allyl group bound through all three carbons is eta-3, and through one carbon eta-1.
