Hole burning
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005335
A spectroscopic technique where a narrow spectral feature, or 'hole', is created in the absorption band of a material by selectively exciting a subset of molecules with a monochromatic light source. This process typically occurs at low temperatures and allows for the study of homogeneous linewidths and spectral diffusion. It provides high-resolution spectroscopic information.
