Homeosis
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005347
The transformation of one serially repeated body part into another, such as the development of a leg in place of an antenna in an insect. This phenomenon is typically caused by mutations in homeotic genes, which regulate the identity of body segments during development. It represents a change in the developmental fate of a structure.
