Selector gene
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010691
A gene that controls the developmental fate of a group of cells or an entire body segment by regulating the expression of other genes involved in differentiation. These genes often encode transcription factors that specify cell identity. A well-known example is the homeotic selector genes in Drosophila, which determine segment identity.
