Hot atom

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005404

An atom possessing kinetic energy significantly greater than the thermal energy of its surroundings, typically as a result of a nuclear transformation or a high-energy collision. These atoms are highly reactive and can undergo chemical reactions that are not energetically favorable for thermalized atoms. The study of hot atom chemistry investigates the reactions of these energetic species.
