Immune escape
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005643
The process by which pathogens or tumor cells evade recognition and elimination by the host's immune system, allowing them to persist and proliferate. This evasion is achieved through mechanisms such as altering surface antigens, downregulating major histocompatibility complex (MHC) molecules to avoid T-cell detection, or secreting immunosuppressive substances. The concept is central to understanding chronic infections and the progression of cancer.
