Immune equilibrium
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005642
The second phase of cancer immunoediting, in which the immune system holds a tumor in check without eradicating it, so that elimination of immunogenic cancer cells is balanced by growth of less immunogenic variants. Tumor cells often persist in this state for years as occult disease under selection pressure from lymphocytes. It follows elimination and precedes escape, the phase in which the tumor grows out clinically.
