Inbred strain
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005752
An animal population resulting from at least 20 consecutive generations of brother-sister matings or a comparable level of controlled breeding. This intensive inbreeding leads to a high degree of homozygosity, making individuals within the strain genetically almost identical to one another. The C57BL/6 mouse is a widely used inbred strain in toxicology and biomedical research to minimize genetic variability as a confounding factor.
