Indirect ecological effect
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005778
An ecological effect that occurs in a community or ecosystem not as a direct result of a stressor, but rather through a chain of interactions involving other species or environmental components. For example, a contaminant might reduce a prey population, which then indirectly affects its predator. These effects can be complex and difficult to predict.
