Inert chemical

A substance added to a pesticide formulation or other product that is not intended to have a direct toxicological or pharmacological effect on the target organism. These components are added to serve other functions, such as acting as a solvent, carrier, or stabilizer to improve the physical characteristics or application of the active ingredient. In the United States, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) maintains lists of approved inert ingredients for use in pesticide products.
