Transfer line
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012211
A line that carries a sample from the sampling point to the analytical unit without changing its composition, made of inert material and often kept warm to prevent condensation or adsorption of the analytes. In gas chromatography with mass spectrometry the name also covers the heated tube joining the column outlet to the ion source. Lines for reactive gases such as nitrogen dioxide or ammonia are made of PTFE, FEP or coated stainless steel.
