Cotectic
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002619
A line on a ternary phase diagram, or the matching set of pressure, temperature and composition conditions, along which a cooling liquid deposits at least two solids side by side. Along the line the liquid composition shifts and the temperature falls, unlike a eutectic point, which is invariant. A basaltic magma depositing olivine and plagioclase together follows such a line.
