Co-stimulation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002618
A second activating signal that a lymphocyte needs alongside the signal it receives through its antigen-specific receptor before it becomes fully activated. For a T cell this signal normally comes from contact with molecules on the antigen-presenting cell. The best-known pair is B7 (CD80 or CD86) on the presenting cell binding CD28 on the T cell; antigen recognition without it leaves the T cell anergic.
