CD40 ligand

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012955

A transmembrane protein, also known as CD154, that is primarily expressed on the surface of activated T lymphocytes. It functions as a co-stimulatory molecule by binding to its receptor, CD40, which is present on antigen-presenting cells like B lymphocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells. This interaction stimulates B cell proliferation, differentiation, and antibody class switching; genetic defects in the CD40 ligand gene result in hyperimmunoglobulin M syndrome.
