Intra-epithelial lymphocyte
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006010
A specialized T lymphocyte located within the epithelial layer of mucosal tissues, particularly in the intestine and respiratory tract. These cells are positioned at the boundary between the external environment and the body's interior, acting as a first line of immune defense. Most intra-epithelial lymphocytes are T cells expressing either the αβ or γδ T-cell receptor, and they differ phenotypically from lymphocytes found in systemic circulation.
