Inversion layer
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006058
A thin region at the surface of a semiconductor where the type of majority charge carriers is inverted compared to the bulk material. This layer is formed by applying an electric field that attracts minority carriers to the surface, making them the majority carriers in that region. It is a key component in metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistors (MOSFETs).
