Accumulation layer

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000116

A region at the surface of a semiconductor where the concentration of majority charge carriers is higher than in the bulk of the material. This layer forms when an electric field attracts majority carriers towards the surface. It is distinct from a depletion layer, where carrier concentration is reduced.
