Karyorrhexis
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013227
The breaking up of a dying cell's nucleus, in which the chromatin condenses unevenly and splits into small, dense, scattered fragments. It is a recognized morphological feature of apoptosis, programmed cell death, and is seen before the nucleus disappears completely. Karyolysis is a different nuclear change, in which the chromatin simply fades and dissolves.
