Lavage

The washing out of a body cavity, such as the stomach or lungs, with a fluid. This procedure is performed to remove harmful substances, foreign bodies, or to collect samples for diagnostic purposes. Gastric lavage, for instance, is sometimes used in cases of poisoning to remove ingested toxins from the stomach.
