London forces
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006758
Weak, short-range attractive forces that arise from temporary fluctuations in the electron distribution of nonpolar molecules, inducing instantaneous dipoles in neighboring molecules. These forces are a component of van der Waals forces and are present between all atoms and molecules. Their strength increases with the polarizability of the interacting species.
