Low energy electron diffraction
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006781
A surface-sensitive technique that uses a beam of low-energy electrons (20-200 eV) to probe the atomic structure of crystalline surfaces. The electrons diffract from the ordered arrangement of surface atoms, producing a characteristic pattern of spots on a fluorescent screen. This pattern provides information about the periodicity and symmetry of the surface lattice.
