Diffraction
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003182
The phenomenon where waves, such as light, X-rays, or electrons, bend and spread out as they pass through an aperture or around an obstacle. This occurs when the wavelength of the wave is comparable to the size of the obstacle or opening. Diffraction patterns are characteristic of the structure causing the scattering.
