Neutron diffraction analysis
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007917
A technique that determines the atomic and magnetic structure of materials by observing the interference patterns produced when a beam of neutrons interacts with a sample. Neutrons, being uncharged, penetrate deeply into materials and are scattered by atomic nuclei and magnetic moments. This method is particularly sensitive to light elements like hydrogen and can distinguish between isotopes, unlike X-ray diffraction.
