Lozenge

A solid, single-dose pharmaceutical preparation intended to be dissolved or disintegrated slowly in the mouth to medicate the oral cavity or throat. Lozenges are prepared with a flavored and sweetened base, such as sugar and gum, which releases the active ingredient as the dosage form dissolves. This dosage form, also known as a troche, provides a prolonged local effect and is used for antiseptic, anesthetic, or antitussive purposes.
