A clear, sweetened liquid dosage form for oral administration, containing one or more active pharmaceutical ingredients dissolved in a hydroalcoholic solvent. The solvent system consists of water and alcohol, with the alcohol serving to dissolve water-insoluble components and act as a preservative. The alcohol content in commercial elixirs varies from approximately 5% to 40% by volume.
