Lymphocyte-activating factor
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006836
An obsolete name for a cytokine, produced primarily by activated macrophages, that stimulates the proliferation and differentiation of T lymphocytes. This factor was later identified as a specific protein and is now known as interleukin-1 (IL-1). The term reflects its originally observed biological activity before its molecular structure and identity within the broader interleukin family were determined.
