Magic angle spinning
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006898
A technique used in solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy to average out anisotropic interactions, such as chemical shift anisotropy and dipolar coupling, which broaden spectral lines. The sample is rapidly rotated at a specific angle (54.74 degrees) relative to the static magnetic field. This rotation effectively averages these orientation-dependent interactions to zero, resulting in sharper, more resolved spectral peaks.
