Maximum exposure limit

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007049

A legally binding UK occupational exposure limit under the COSHH regulations, applied to hazardous substances for which no safe exposure level could be shown or lower limits were not practicable. It caps the airborne concentration, averaged over a stated reference period such as 8 hours, that employees may inhale, and exposure also had to be reduced as far below it as reasonably practicable. In 2005 maximum exposure limits and occupational exposure standards were merged into workplace exposure limits.
