Medium
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007137
The bulk material, typically a liquid or gas, in which a chemical reaction is conducted or a physical property is measured. The medium surrounds the chemical species of interest, such as reactants or solutes, and can influence their behavior through physical and chemical interactions. Properties of the medium like polarity, viscosity, and dielectric constant directly affect reaction rates, chemical equilibria, and spectroscopic measurements.
