Mendelian gene
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007174
A theoretical unit of heredity that is inferred from its observable phenotypic effects and follows the principles of segregation and independent assortment as described by Gregor Mendel. This classical concept defines a gene by its function in producing a trait, without reference to its underlying molecular structure. The existence and identity of a Mendelian gene are deduced from the statistical patterns of inheritance of a specific characteristic across generations.
