Forward genetics

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004605

A genetic approach that begins with an observable phenotype or trait and then seeks to identify the underlying gene or genes responsible for that phenotype. Researchers typically induce random mutations and screen for individuals exhibiting the desired characteristic. This method contrasts with reverse genetics, which starts with a gene and investigates its function.
