Michaelis-Menten equation

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007299

A mathematical model that describes the rate of an enzyme-catalyzed reaction as a function of substrate concentration. The equation relates the initial reaction velocity to the maximum velocity and the Michaelis constant, which represents the substrate concentration at which the reaction rate is half of the maximum. This model assumes that the formation of an enzyme-substrate complex is a reversible step, followed by an irreversible step that forms the product and regenerates the free enzyme.
