Stokes equation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011436
An equation that describes the drag force experienced by a spherical particle moving through a viscous fluid at low Reynolds numbers. It relates the drag force to the particle's radius, the fluid's viscosity, and the particle's velocity. This equation is often applied in polymer science to estimate the hydrodynamic radius of macromolecules in solution from their sedimentation velocity.
