Multiconfiguration SCF method
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007629
A quantum chemical calculation technique that improves upon the Hartree-Fock method by including electron correlation. The multiconfiguration self-consistent field (MCSCF) method determines the molecular orbitals and the configuration interaction coefficients simultaneously by variationally minimizing the energy of a wave function expressed as a linear combination of several configuration state functions. This approach is particularly effective for describing bond breaking, electronically excited states, and systems with near-degenerate orbitals.
