N-nucleotides
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007975
Nucleotides that are randomly added to the junctions between gene segments during the somatic recombination of T-cell receptor and immunoglobulin genes. This process, mediated by terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase (TdT), increases the diversity of antigen receptors. The addition of N-nucleotides contributes significantly to junctional diversity, which is a key mechanism for generating a vast repertoire of immune specificities.
