Junctional diversity
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006292
A mechanism for generating variability in the antigen-binding sites of immunoglobulin and T-cell receptors during lymphocyte development. It occurs through the imprecise joining of Variable (V), Diversity (D), and Joining (J) gene segments. The enzyme terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase (TdT) adds non-templated nucleotides at these junctions, further increasing the sequence variation.
