No-observed-effect-level

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008063

The highest concentration or amount of a substance, found by experiment or observation, that causes no detectable adverse alteration of morphology, function, capacity, growth, development, or lifespan of the target organism under defined conditions of exposure. It is determined from a specific study and represents the upper boundary of the no-observed-adverse-effect range. This value is expressed in units such as milligrams of substance per kilogram of body weight per day (mg/kg/day) and is used in risk assessment.
