Nonclassical carbocation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008008
A carbocation in which the positive charge is delocalized over more than three atoms through a three-center, two-electron bond. This delocalization results in a structure that cannot be adequately represented by conventional Lewis structures with localized bonds. The norbornyl cation is a well-known example of a nonclassical carbocation.
