Nonclassical structure
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008009
A molecular structure that cannot be accurately described by traditional Lewis structures involving only two-electron, two-center bonds. These structures often feature delocalized bonding where electrons are shared among more than two atoms, such as in three-center, two-electron bonds. Boranes and certain carbocations are prominent examples of compounds exhibiting nonclassical structures.
