Bridged carbocation

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001500

A carbocation in which a carbon atom bearing a positive charge is stabilized by a neighboring group that forms a partial bond to it, creating a three-center, two-electron bond. This delocalization of positive charge enhances the stability of the carbocation. Such species are often observed in solvolysis reactions.
