Allyl cation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000440
An even-electron cation of the general form R2C=CR-C+R2, whose positive charge is delocalized over the two terminal carbons by resonance, the parent being C3H5+. Its stability is comparable to that of a secondary carbocation and far above that of a localized primary one. In mass spectrometry the C3H5+ ion is a common fragment observed at a mass-to-charge ratio of 41.
