Normalized tunnelling intensity

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013342

The ratio of the second derivative of tunnelling current with respect to bias voltage to the first derivative, d²I/dV² divided by dI/dV, used in inelastic electron tunnelling spectroscopy. Dividing by the differential conductance corrects for the bias dependence of the elastic background. Its peaks fall at bias voltages equal to molecular vibrational energies divided by the elementary charge.
