Sample bias
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010492
An electric potential applied to the whole sample or to part of it, measured against the potential of the sample holder. In surface analysis a bias is applied, for example, to accelerate secondary ions away from the sample or to shift the kinetic energy of emitted electrons. It differs from the sample voltage, which is the potential of the sample referenced to ground.
