Sample charging
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010493
The accumulation of electrostatic charge on the surface of a non-conductive or poorly conductive sample during surface analysis techniques, such as X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. This charge buildup can cause shifts in the measured kinetic energies of emitted electrons, leading to errors in elemental identification and chemical state analysis. It is often mitigated by using charge neutralization techniques.
