Rayleigh ratio

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009956

A measure of the intensity of light scattered by a sample at a specific angle, normalized by the incident light intensity and the scattering volume. It is used in light scattering experiments to determine the molecular weight and size of macromolecules in solution. The Rayleigh ratio is typically expressed in units of cm^-1.
