Excess Rayleigh ratio

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004163

The difference between the Rayleigh ratio of a polymer solution and that of the pure solvent, representing the scattering solely due to the dissolved macromolecules. This quantity is directly proportional to the concentration and molar mass of the polymer in a dilute solution. It is a key measurement in static light scattering experiments for determining polymer properties.
