Large particle

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006444

A particle whose largest dimension is not small compared with the wavelength of incident radiation used to study it. The scattering of radiation, such as light or neutrons, from such particles is dependent on their shape and is concentrated in the forward direction. This scattering behavior is described by Mie theory for spherical particles, which contrasts with the simpler Rayleigh scattering observed from small particles.
