Small particle
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010950
A particle in a polymer solution whose largest dimension is considerably smaller than the wavelength of the incident light used in a scattering experiment. For such particles, the scattered light intensity is uniform in all directions (isotropic scattering), and the analysis is simplified as intramolecular interference effects are negligible. The criterion for a small particle is often taken as having a maximum dimension less than one-twentieth of the light's wavelength in the medium.
