Small outer capsid protein

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010949

A small accessory protein of about 9 kDa, called Soc, that decorates the outside of the bacteriophage T4 head and attaches to the main capsid protein. Several hundred copies sit on each capsid and tolerate fusions, so Soc is used as an anchor in phage display to present foreign proteins or antibody fragments on the particle surface when building phage antibody libraries.
