Accessory molecule

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000103

A cell surface protein that assists in the interaction between immune cells, particularly in the context of antigen recognition and T cell activation. These molecules bind to other cell surface proteins or ligands on antigen-presenting cells, enhancing the affinity and stability of the T-cell receptor complex. Examples include CD4 and CD8, which bind to major histocompatibility complex (MHC) molecules.
